On This Day in History / August 28, 2023 1972: Capt Richard S. “Steve” Ritchie, with his Weapons Officer Capt Charles D. DeBellevue, shot down his fifth MiG-21 near Hanoi. He thus became the first USAF ace of the Vietnam War and first since the Korean War.
