1939: Jacqueline Cochran sets a women’s national altitude record flying a Beechcraft over Palm Springs, California, of 30,052 feet. She goes on to set many records, here seen with the T-38 Talon used in many of those efforts. She won the Harmon Trophy for those efforts in 1962.
