On This Day in History / May 29, 2024 1951: Flying a converted P-51, Charles F. Blair, Jr., traveled 3,300 miles across the North Pole from Bardufoss, Norway, to Fairbanks in 10 hours 29 minutes. Thus, he became the first man to make the trip alone and in a single-engine plane.
