2002: Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. A C-17 departs Kandahar with the first 20 Taliban and Al Qaeda prisoners on a trip to Guantanamo Bay. The C-17 stops briefly at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, where the prisoners were transferred to a 445th Airlift Wing (AF Reserve Command) C-141 from Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, for the nonstop, air refueled flight to Guantanamo. The C-141 arrives in Cuba on 11 January.
