1932: Early aeronautical pioneer Col. Thurman Bane dies in New York. He was instrumental in aviation technology experimentation while commanding McCook Field, Ohio. The Barling Bomber, Liberty Eagle Flying Bomb, cantilever monoplane, and variable pitch propeller were developed under his leadership.
