1975: From 16 January thru 1 February, USAF Majors Roger Smith, David Peterson and William MacFarlane fly the “Streak Eagle,” a pre-production version of the F-15 fighter, setting eight time-to-climb records. The final record-breaking flight attained an altitude of 98,425 feet in three minutes and 27.8 seconds. The final altitude reached was 103,000 feet. These pilots were awarded the Mackay Trophy.
