1968: President Johnson orders a partial halt to the bombardment of North Vietnam above the 20th parallel but political pressure moves the line further south to the 19th parallel. LBJ proposes that peace talks should begin with North Vietnam. He surprises the nation by announcing that he will not seek reelection.
