1921: Ludwig Prandtl, lauded German aerodynamicist, publishes “Application of Modern Hydrodynamics,” as NACA Report No. 116. One of Prandtl’s brightest pupils, Theodore von Kármán (pictured at the chalkboard), will move from Germany to head the Caltech aeronautical laboratory in the 1930s.
