1942: Thru 11 Nov, Army and carrier-based airplanes support the invasion of North Africa, and American troops land on French-held territory. Colonel Demas T. Craw volunteers to negotiate an armistice between the US and French. On the way to the negotiations, he is killed by machine gun fire. Maj Pierpont M. Hamilton, who accompanied Colonel Craw, is captured but completes the mission. For their actions, both men receive the Medal of Honor.
