1907: Capt Charles DeForest Chandler and James C. McCoy in Signal Corps Balloon No. 10 became the first winners of the Lahm Cup. Leaving St. Louis, their flight ended 20 hours 15 minutes later at Walton, Va., after covering 473.56 miles. Chandler had assumed command of the Aeronautical Division of the Signal Corps only two months before.
