1952: The U.S. tests it’s the first thermonuclear device at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. The “Mike Shot” yields more than 10 million tons of TNT, more than 1,000 times more powerful than the Little Boy bomb dropped on Hiroshima at the end of World War II.
