1911: Lt. Henry H. Arnold flies as a “stunt pilot” for scenes in the movie “The Military Air Scout.” The filming is accomplished after the conclusion of the Aero Club of America air meet at Nassau Boulevard, New York.
Legend has it that the film director began to call Arnold,
“Hap,” because of his perpetual smile. The story is only a legend as he did not begin using that nickname until much later in his adult life after the death of his mother in 1931.
