1965: During Operation FLAMING DART, retaliatory strikes for the Viet Cong attack at Pleiku the day before, Allied aircraft (Navy and AF) strike targets in North Vietnam. On 8 February, a USAF F-100 Super Sabre flies air cover for attacking South Vietnamese fighter aircraft. This marks the first air strike over North Vietnam by an Air Force aircraft.
